How people are experiencing the current situation (thoughts and opinions on COVID-19)

We are living extraordinary times. While trying to flatten the curve of COVID-19, our life has been drastically changed in many ways. Every day, we receive lots of information from politicians, health specialists and the media. But, many of us have as well, an opinion about what’s happening. Even though we might not be specialists, our opinions and thoughts are still valid and worth sharing.

In today’s post I have gathered different opinions of people and how they are experiencing the current situation. In order to remain as accurate as possible, I have transcribed their opinions and thoughts in the original language they were written. After each quotation, you will find the translation in English to reach as many as possible.

The confinement is extremely necessary and the authorities are aware of it. Despite this, the measure has been taken too late and the population should have been confined much earlier. In addition, youngsters are not conscious of the gravity of the problem and are not acting appropriately.

I think that everything is being done for our good and if we have to stay home, we stay home.

I think that if we want the number of persons affected for the virus to decrease and have the infections more controlled, it’s really important that we follow the measures that we are being told, #stayhome is not that hard! The more we follow the measures, the more likely it is that this stops earlier, 15 days, the days that in theory, the symptoms take to appear; after 15 days you will know if you are healthy or if no one has been infected by you. For me, all these of staying at home, it’s not a big problem because I just finished my classes a couple of weeks ago but, if I was in high school or university, I think I will try to see the positive side of being able to take the home study with more calm than normally. On the other hand, for me it’s not a big problem because I’m a person who loves to spend time at home doing lots of things: writing, organizing clothes, learning about the subjects I like on the Internet, watching movies/series. Even so, for example, I had to take the decision to cancel my birthday party which I was really excited about but anyway, the day after, the quarantine was officially decreed, so I couldn’t have celebrated. That’s why I hope for everything to go back to normal as soon as possible and to be able to celebrate that we have survived the virus, the quarantine. I also think that is important to take care of our mental and physical health, for example, do not saturate ourselves with all the information and news about the virus, of course, we still have to be informed and see what’s happening everyday, but we don’t have to be aware of the news the 24 hours of the day because then this will feel like forever, and we will go crazy! (I’m exaggerating but I hope that the message is being understood). I think we are not completely isolated since we have phones, the Internet, social media to communicate with family and friends. Let’s use this time to do new activities, continue with our hobbies that we may have left forgotten, play video games, keep up with school/work without forgetting to exercise and breath air outside even if it is from a window. With luck, soon we will be outside.

I think that there’s something good about this happening because the fact of being forced to stay at home gives a lot to think about. Not only about the world in general but as well about our own lives, what are we doing, what we don’t like, etc. Moreover, I have to say that this global stop benefits the natural enivronment haha so, the confinement has its good part. Personally, I’m not fully conscious of what’s going on because in reality, it’s bigger than we think. A virus has “mobilised” the WHOLE world and made it come together for one same cause. This also shows us the power we can have if we are all together.

” Jia, 17, Catalonia.

Even if I’m staying at home, I’m starting to feel a bit stressed.😂 My mother worries a lot about this pandemic and harasses us a bit but I also understand it. Besides, my high school is giving us a lot of work to do and I don’t know where to start. Apart from this, it has happened all of a sudden, it hasn’t been progressive, which will make it difficult to go back to normality.

Before ending, I would like to share some of my thoughts: “Because we live in society, we have to try to contain the virus as much as possible so it doesn’t affect those people who are in risk (elderly people, people with breathing problems or autoimmune diseases) or collapses the health system”, “It seems like nowadays, we only talk about one thing: CORONAVIRUS. And this can be a bit tiring but I guess that in the exceptionalism of the situation this is normal”, “On of the positives aspects of these days is the feeling of unity and society that, in general, we have”, “One of the things that for me makes this situation difficult is the uncertainty”, “It’s curious how in situations like this one, the little moments are valued more”.

If you would like to share your thoughts and opinions on COVID-19, please do so in the comment section.

Love, M.

    1. I know it can be a bit annoying but I think that during these times we have to stay positive and look at the bigger picture. We are doing this so we can go back to normal as soon as possible!
